Behind the Music: The Making of The Relentless Warrior

A behind-the-scenes look at how The Relentless Warrior album came together, from the initial concept to the final master.

"The Relentless Warrior" is more than an album -- it's a statement. Every track was crafted with intention, drawing on years of experience as an emcee, storyteller, and Indigenous activist.

The recording process started with the concept: what does it mean to be a warrior in the modern world? For Indigenous people, being a warrior isn't about violence. It's about protecting your culture, your language, your community, and your spirit. Every song on this album explores a different facet of that identity.

I worked with producers who understood the vision. We blended traditional elements -- drum sounds inspired by pow wow rhythms, vocal patterns drawn from ceremonial singing -- with hard-hitting hip-hop production. The result is something that feels both ancient and completely contemporary.

Tracks like "Rise of a Nation" became anthems for Indigenous pride, while more personal cuts explored the daily reality of life on the rez. The album was recorded over several months, with sessions happening in studios across Ontario and in makeshift setups at home.

Looking back, The Relentless Warrior represents a turning point in my career. It showed me -- and others -- that Indigenous hip hop can stand shoulder to shoulder with any music in the world. It just needs to be heard.
