Ancestral Vibes: Bringing Workshops to Northern Communities
A look back at the Ancestral Vibes workshop series, bringing music production, storytelling, and healing circles to remote Indigenous communities across Ontario.
The Ancestral Vibes workshop program has been one of the most rewarding projects of my career. Over the past several months, we brought our 1-3 day residency program to communities across Northern Ontario, working with youth and elders alike.
Each workshop is built around core pillars: music production, video creation, storytelling, and healing circles. We adapt the programming to each community's needs. In some places, the youth wanted to learn how to produce beats and record vocals. In others, the elders asked us to facilitate talking circles that bridge generational gaps through music.
One of the most powerful moments came during a workshop in a remote fly-in community. A young woman who had never touched a microphone recorded her first song -- a tribute to her grandmother in her traditional language. The room was silent when she played it back. That's what this work is about.
If your community, school, or organization is interested in hosting an Ancestral Vibes workshop, reach out through our contact page. We offer flexible programming and work with communities to make it accessible.
